Community Action and volunteering

Community Action and volunteering

In these pages you will find lots of information about how CFO supports community action projects, volunteering, and community led planning.

There is also more information about  the Well Together Programme and our community transport support service.

Community action comes in all shapes and forms of volunteer run interest groups and issue-based initiatives. Essentially, it is all about collective effort around common concerns, overcoming social injustice, for example, improving people’s well-being, strengthening democracy and encouraging people to participate in cultivating sustainable community life and commitment to others.

Community responses to Covid offered wonderful examples of how people could come together to meet challenges. These collective efforts were a reminder of the great resilience in our communities but how those efforts often require additional support to help keep them going, and respond to new needs as they emerge.

CFO’s team is here to support you with expert advice, practical help, resources, and training in relation to:

Well Together Programme
Bespoke or one-off community action projects
Community-led Planning – a ‘deep-dive’ investigation into your community’s needs
Volunteering strategies and initiatives
Community Reviews - get a quick overview of local needs

Community First Oxfordshire also offers support for Neighbourhood Plans. These plans are led by a parish or Town Council (or a neighbourhood forum) and set out planning policies for the development and use of land. A NP becomes part of the development plan for a Local Authority area.
