Assets of Community Value

Community First Oxfordshire offers a service for communities in the Cherwell District Council area to support them with the application process to list local assets.

Under the Localism Act 2011 and the Community Right to Bid, an ‘Assets of Community Value’ provision has arisen which gives eligible organisations – including Town and Parish Councils and certain community groups, the opportunity to nominate buildings or land to be listed under this provision. This process is intended to give communities a greater chance to take control of buildings and land important to them. When a listed asset comes up for sale, there is a delay in the sale process, this means that if there is a community group ready to take on the task, they can prepare a bid to buy the asset.

CFO can provide advice and support to community groups and parish councils who wish to complete the Assets of Community Value Nomination Form which is provided by Cherwell District Council.  We can discuss what can be achieved by listing an Asset of Community Value and to find out if it is worth your while. If it is, then help with the form can be provided.

We can offer help with: pulling together the evidence needed in the application; including clear boundary plan and; making the case for continuing the community use of an asset.
