Shrivenham Memorial Hall is a striking Grade II listed building at the heart of the village, set within its own recreation ground. Opened in 1925 by HRH Princess Beatrice, daughter of Queen Victoria, the hall was the gift of Charlotte Barrington to provide a permanent meeting place for the community. It retains much of its historic character, most notably the impressive oak triple-hammer beam ceiling, which was modelled on the design of St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle.
Today the hall is a vibrant and flexible venue, popular for weddings, celebrations, community groups, classes and performances. The main hall can accommodate around 150 people seated and provides an attractive and spacious setting for larger gatherings, including stage and sound system upon request. Alongside this are three additional rooms of varying sizes: the Vic Day Room, which is well suited to medium-sized events; the Chestnut Room, ideal for smaller meetings or workshops; and the Claridge Room, which provides an intimate space for small groups. The neighbouring Sports Pavilion also offers further capacity for up to 60 people and is especially useful for more informal events. In fine weather, the loggia and outdoor area provide a pleasant extension to the indoor facilities.
The Hall and Pavilion are well equipped for hire. Both have a kitchen suitable for preparing and serving food, and a supply of tables and chairs is available, including round tables and wedding chairs for more formal occasions. Parking is provided on site for around 30 cars, including spaces for disabled visitors. The building is also licensed as an approved venue for civil ceremonies, making it an attractive and convenient choice for weddings.
With its blend of history, character and practicality, Shrivenham Memorial Hall and Sports Pavillion offers a welcoming setting for both private and community events. Its central position within the village, together with the surrounding recreation ground, ensures that it continues to be a valued focal point for Shrivenham and the wider community.
